ART DEPARTMENT

We want to congratulate Kasey Tolley for his entry into the 2015 Junior Duck Stamp Contest. We will find out his placement in the competition on May 9th at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in Brigham City. Well done Kasey!!!  He spent many, many hours on his painting so be sure to give him a "good job" comment when you see him.
Also on April 17th the District Art Show goes up at South Towne Mall. Be sure to check out the talented students in our Art Department. It will be up for 2 weeks.
Riverton High had 6 art entries make it into the Springville Art Museum. We doubled our entries from last year. It may not seem huge, however it is. It is a juried show and only a few select make it into the museum. Our students' who were juried in were: Annalena Schmider, both her submissions made it into the show! Her pieces were a small prisma (colored pencil) of a leaf and a beautiful charcoal self portrait.  Karlie Curtis had an oil painting of herself, Rebecca Pederson had an oil painting of her friend, and our SBO Kirsten Spencer had a prisma drawing of a wooden maniquine sitting by a fireplace, and Kimberly Dang had a photograph. Watch for them at the District show.

Watch for the annual Riverton Art Show sometime in the middle of May. If you want to submit for this show please see your art teacher. all entries are welcomed.
And last but not least our 3rd Annual "CHALK THE WALK" will coming near the end of may. Watch for the flyers.

The year’s events will culminate with the graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 4 at 3:00 pm. The event will be held in the UCCU Center at Utah Valley University in Provo. In order to facilitate preparations for the ceremony, graduates are asked to arrive by 2:00 pm.
Parents, we ask you to help us in making graduation a solemn celebration. We are requesting that students be in best dress underneath their graduation robes. Graduating young men are to wear dress shirt and tie, dress slacks, and dress shoes. Levis (denim), shorts, tennis shoes, flip-flops, and sandals are not appropriate. Graduating young ladies are to wear dress shoes and dresses or skirts of length no longer than the graduating gown. Extremely high heels, flip-flops, and casual sandals are not appropriate.
Additionally, the administration asks for your assistance with the demeanor and dress during graduation. The Jordan District policy regarding dress at graduation is as follows:
In order to maintain dignity and decorum at high school commencements, students participating in commencement exercises are subject to the dress and grooming standards of the Jordan School District Dress Code and wear the prescribed cap and gown during the ceremony* without additional ornamentation or decoration. Personal items such as clothing, accessories, or jewelry that draw undue attention or detract from the dignity and decorum of the occasion shall not be allowed. Mantles, cords, insignias, or medals signifying achievement, honor or recognition are restricted to awards issued and approved for display at graduation by the local high school.
* “During the ceremony” refers to the entire duration of the commencement program, from opening processional to completion of the recessional.
Individual photographs will be professionally taken as students receive their diploma. The purchase of this service is optional and further details will be announced at graduation rehearsals. Only ceremony participants will be allowed within the ceremony area. Family members and friends will be asked to stay in the seating areas. If you would like to take individual pictures, please do so before or after the ceremony. Parents are encouraged to leave young children at home.
Unfortunately, we sometimes have disciplinary issues at the end of the school year. Please be aware that certain violations of district or school policy could prohibit your child from being able to participate in end of the year activities including the graduation ceremony. Seniors who fail classes during 4th quarter due to lack of effort or attendance may not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.
We appreciate the efforts of faculty, administration, staff, and parents to make the end of the year and the graduation ceremony very special for graduating seniors. If you have any questions, please call Mr. Curtis Hagen, Assistant Principal, or Mr. Jerry Payne, Counseling Department Chairperson. Congratulations to the seniors and the parents of the graduating class of 2015.
Thank You,
