From the Driver's Ed Department


Thank you for not parking in the maroon parking stalls in the north parking lot between 2:30 & 7:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and Saturdays between 7:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. We want to save you $120 in towing fees!  Park in a yellow stall and you will be golden! Thanks for your cooperation. Always assume there will be a range, we conduct about 75 sessions every quarter.

DRIVER EDUCATION students (& parents)

Do you have your Learner Permit? You need to obtain your permit from the Utah Driver License Division BEFORE* your classroom quarter begins ( You must score a minimum of 80% on the Utah Driver Handbook examination to apply for a Utah learner permit. Coach Galley has Utah Driver Handbooks available free of charge in his classroom and he also offers the test free of charge in Room 2626 before school (Mondays & Tuesdays) at 7:00 a.m. You may also directly to the D.L.D. to take the test. Thanks!

*15 years and 3-5 months is our recommended time for getting a permit. This allows for adequate practice time and also prevents the need to renew the permit when it expires after 1 year. Many students turn 16 before they have completed the class and all driving phases. Getting your permit on your 15th birthday usually leads to spending another $15 at the Driver License Division. Save yourself the hassle.


Our popular Dr. Ed. Parent Nights are scheduled in the auditorium each semester for a parent(s)/guardian(s) of current Dr. Ed. students. We encourage you to plan ahead and save the date. Please note that the general public, other family members, or friends are invited to join you in attending this free, powerful presentation. The Zero Fatalities Parent Night is informative and can be life-saving and life-changing, and it is a great family night out!

Art Department is taking a walking field trip to down town Salt Lake on October 6th. Ms. Riley and Mrs. Harris are in charge of the field trip. It is a photo opportunity for future ideas for student art projects. We are learning about aesthetics.

Advanced ceramics students are learning about the ancient art of Raku firing.  They have made their own animal sculptures and will be firing them in the outdoor Raku kiln in October.  Ask a student for more information about it.

FCCLA is excited to start off the 2016-2017 school year!   This summer our chapter sent nine students to Nationals in San Diego, California.  Our members did an amazing job representing Riverton FCCLA bringing home 6 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals!  Our chapter and two state officers have been busy this summer planning lot of activities and service projects for this upcoming year. Chapter activities will be the second Thursday of each month, with the opening social held in the tech atrium on September 8th.  We have a great year planned so make sure you get your membership forms quickly to Ms. Maxfield!

There will be a meeting for those who will be in grades 9-12 next year and are planning to try out for the volleyball team. Both parents and athletes are invited to attend. The meeting will be held at 8pm in the RHS Media Center on Tuesday, April 26th. 

The meeting will be brief (30 minutes max). We will be going over the High School Clinic (spring and summer schedule), tryouts, and athletes will have the opportunity to purchase gear for the season. If you have any questions email Coach Struck at

Effective immediately, we will begin refunding lunch money to any senior with money remaining in their account.  Seniors will be able to come to the office, at the north end of the cafeteria, and obtain any funds remaining in their account.  Once any money is refunded, seniors will only be allowed to buy lunch with cash.  We ask that no checks or online payments be made after a senior receives their refund.

If a senior has a sibling within the district, the money in their account at the end of the school year will be transferred to a sibling's account.  This does not include siblings who attend charter schools.  If you have any questions please feel free to call me.

Congratulations to Choir, Orchestra and Indoor Percussion!

Recently our choir and orchestra went to Chicago for tour. They received the following awards:
                      Madrigals received a Gold rating and took 1st place
                      Cadence received a Silver rating and took 2nd place
                      A'cappella received a Gold rating and took 1st place
                      Erica Wilson received Outstanding Pianist/Accompanist
                      Sydney Higgins received Outstanding Violin Accompanist
                      Orchestra received a Gold rating and took 2nd place
                      AND...Choir and Orchestra combined received The Chicago 

Fantastic job Jason Weimer, Matt Ulmer, the Choir and Orchestra students! 

Also our Indoor Percussion competed for the first time ever at the State Competition and took 2nd place!  Congratulations to Max Meyer and the Percussion team!

MDT Presents

Congratulations to Drama Team!

We are proud that the RHS Drama Team took 3rd place in region, 2nd place in plays (congrats cast of The Pillowman), won Most Professional Production, 1st and 3rd in Classical Scenes (Dalton Adams, Gentrey Jeppsen and Emma Tolman took 1st and Hannah Warden and Mattie Carter took 3rd) as well as qualified 40 students for State.  Way to go RHS Drama.

Spring Dance Recital

January and February have been really busy for RHS FCCLA.   FCCLA Region Conference was on February 4th.  Students have been working and preparing to compete in STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition).  

The students represented RHS well and received the following recognition at Region:

February 8-12 was National FCCLA Week.  The RHS FCCLA officers planned activities for each day that included Plinko FCCLA Trivia, and “Lunch Art in the Commons”, RHS Chapter Lunch Bunch on Wednesday and TGI-FCCLA Friday (Thank Goodness It’s FCCLA Friday) Breakfast was Friday morning.

Students are now preparing for the FCCLA State Conference, which will be held on March 22nd, and 23rd at the Davis Convention Center.  Their STAR Events are very well done and we wish them the best of luck as they compete with students from all over the state.

Chapter activities will be on Thursday March 11th and April 14th.  Applications for RHS Chapter Officer will be available on April 1st from any FACS teacher.  The date in May for the closing social and induction of the new officers will be announced at a later date.
